"I have always had volunteering as a core part of my life, and it has been a way to get involved into whatever community I’ve been a part of. Looking at potential career opportunities, getting the chance to be on the other side of the situation was intriguing and an exciting chance to give back and help others find opportunities of their own!”
AS SOMEONE WORKING IN VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT, HOW DOES TAVA HELP YOU?
Having a community of people who are working towards the same goals, experiences the same high points and struggles, and having a group of people to turn to for insight and support is great to surround yourself with, as well as having so many experienced individuals to reach out to as I’m starting in this sector.
WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO EXPLORE/ ENTER VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT AS A PROFESSION?
I have always had volunteering as a core part of my life, and it has been a way to get involved into whatever community I’ve been a part of. Looking at potential career opportunities, getting the chance to be on the other side of the situation was intriguing and an exciting chance to give back and help others find opportunities of their own!
WORKING IN VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT, IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES?
A big challenge that we face is making sure that the volunteers understand how much they’re needed and appreciated without either making it overly cheesy or disingenuous, while also making sure that they understand exactly how much we truly value them.
IN THE PAST YEAR, WHAT WAS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE PROFESSIONAL PROJECT AND WHY?
Developing, and onboarding, a new role for volunteer coaches, who work to support new/first time entrepreneurs! It's been so inspiring to see this happen!
WHAT WAS THE MOST SUPRISING THING YOU LEARNED UPON STARTING IN YOUR ROLE/VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT?
Learning that there were so many people ready to volunteer...and who needed help finding an opportunity that was just right for them.
WHEN YOU'RE NOT WORKING, HOW DO YOU LIKE TO SPEND YOUR TIME?
I love to crochet, and love making things to gift to others! Other than that, I love biking and reading to decompress and relax!
