Shifting Mindsets for Meaningful Change

✨ Thursday, October 14, 2022

✨  9:30-11:00am

✨ Meeting virtually over Zoom

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

While the value of services provided by non-profits and their volunteers greatly benefits Toronto, it’s an ongoing challenge to access the resources required to explore significant program changes. Many for-profit businesses are doing exciting things as part of their corporate social responsibility mandates, and are able to implement new ideas with support from external consultants. While non-profits may not be able to duplicate these efforts, there are benefits to stepping outside our sector bubble to learn from and consider new or inspiring approaches.

Join members of the Toronto Neighbourhood Centre (TNC) Volunteer Group and Canadian construction company Hilti, to discover how intentional shifts to a corporate onboarding process attracted more diverse applicants.

In this session you’ll:

  • Hear how the TNC group was energized by newcomer engagement success stories
  • Benefit from corporate insights, research, and tested practices
  • Discuss tangible ways non-profits are/can begin to make changes in volunteer recruitment

DISCUSSION PARTICIPANTS:

Volunteer Management Professionals Maxine McKoy (North York Community House) and Danielle Benton (NYCH, formerly West Neighbourhood House) representing the Toronto Neighbourhood Centre Volunteer Group (TNC). TNC is an association of non-profit multi-service organizations dedicated to strengthening local neighbourhoods and enabling diverse communities to work together to promote justice and a healthy life for all.

Special guest: Jason Aurora, CHRL - Human Resources Director, Hilti Canada. Jason is a seasoned HR professional with a passion for leading teams and strategies that make positive and meaningful change through the development of people-centered programs that support inclusive work environments.
