As someone working in Volunteer Engagement, how does TAVA help you?

TAVA helps me in my professional development on volunteer engagement through its workshops and educational events like the Conference. They bring awareness for members to see the importance of our profession. It's also a great way to network with a diverse group of volunteer engagement professionals.

thank you for volunteering on the 2018-2019 conference committee! What are you most excited about for the conference?

We have an amazing line-up of speakers. Four to be exact! The committee has been working hard to make this conference one to remember - jammed packed with great speakers, and opportunities to interact and network with other volunteer engagement professionals. We will get to share ideas, learn from each other, and enrich our learning in this dynamic field.

what does volunteering on the conference committee look like?

There are opportunities throughout the conference planning process to work collaboratively, bring fresh ideas, and learn new things. I introduced the idea of conference buddies, so everyone has an opportunity to connect one-on-one with another volunteer engagement professional.

What advice would you give to someone looking to take the next step in their Volunteer Engagement career?

For anyone who's looking to pursue a career in a volunteer engagement, I think it is important that you work for an organization whose core set of values are similar to yours. Believing in your organization's mission is important. This will help you see how valuable your role is: bringing together a community of volunteers whose contributions aligns with your organization's mission. Also vital to success in this profession is getting to know your volunteer team and building those relationships.

When you're not working or volunteering with the conference committee, how do you like to spend your time?

I enjoy singing! I'm looking forward to a trip to New York in the spring where we will be performing. I also love to travel, try out different foods, and learn about different cultures and places.
